Why Did Hoda Kotb Move to the Suburbs with Her Two Kids? — All About Her $2.89M Suburban New York Home

Hoda Kotb’s Fresh Start: A New Chapter Focused on Family and Balance

After celebrating her milestone 60th birthday, Hoda Kotb realized it was time to take a step back from her fast-paced lifestyle in New York City.

Determined to embrace a slower, more family-centered life, Kotb made a series of changes that would bring her closer to what truly matters most — her two young daughters.

A Turning Point: Reflecting on Her 60th Birthday

Kotb turned 60 in August 2024, and shortly after, she had an emotional moment on the “Today” show, reflecting on how this milestone made her reconsider her priorities. Known for her bubbly personality and unwavering commitment to her career, Kotb realized she needed to shift her focus toward something more personal and meaningful — her family.

In September 2024, she announced her decision to step away from the “Today” show early the following year. Fighting back tears during the September 26 episode, Kotb shared her thoughts with viewers.

“I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60 and try something new,” she said. The mother of two explained that her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5, deserved more of her time. “I feel like we only have a finite amount of time,” she added, emphasizing the importance of making the most of every moment with her girls.

Prioritizing Her Family: The Move to the Suburbs

Long before Kotb publicly announced her departure from “Today,” she had already begun making changes. One of the biggest adjustments was her decision to leave Manhattan and move to a quieter suburb, trading the city’s chaos for a more peaceful, nurturing environment for her daughters.

Kotb admitted that staying in Manhattan would have been easier, but she felt a pull toward a small town where her girls could grow up learning independence. “I found this spot that I liked, a little town that had all the things that could teach my kids independence,” she shared.

The move wasn’t just about changing scenery; it was about creating a cozy, welcoming home where her daughters would feel secure and loved. Kotb wanted to ensure that Haley and Hope grew up in a space they were excited about.

“I want my house to feel warm and cozy, a place where the kids want to hang,” she explained. Kotb even coined a term to describe her transition: “repotting.” Much like a plant that needs to be moved to a larger pot to continue growing, Kotb believed that her family was ready to thrive in a bigger space.

Exploring Their New Home: A $2.89 Million Colonial in Bronxville

Kotb’s move from Manhattan to Bronxville, New York, was a significant change. Her new $2.89 million home, purchased through a trust, offers the perfect balance of suburban peace with easy access to the city when needed.

The stunning Colonial-style house, built in 1952, spans 4,000 square feet and includes four bedrooms and five bathrooms. Its bright, airy design reflects Kotb’s desire to create a warm, inviting space for her family. The home was recently renovated by EC Builders, who expressed their excitement on social media about completing the project just in time for the family’s move.

The home’s layout is ideal for family living, featuring a chef’s kitchen, a formal dining room, and a sunlit family room with vaulted ceilings and custom built-ins. Outside, a spacious bluestone patio provides the perfect spot for outdoor dining and playtime — a major perk Kotb appreciates after years of city apartment living.

The primary bedroom suite is equally impressive, spanning 764 square feet. It includes custom closets, a luxurious bathroom with marble floors, and radiant heating. The lower level of the house offers a bonus space that Kotb plans to use as a playroom for her girls.

The property covers a third of an acre, filled with blooming flowers and lush greenery. Kotb is already making the most of the outdoor space, often hosting friends like her “Today” co-host Savannah Guthrie for backyard gatherings.

Cherished Memories of Manhattan

Although Kotb is excited about her new life in the suburbs, leaving her Manhattan apartment was an emotional experience. On a June 2024 episode of “Today with Hoda & Jenna,” she teared up while reflecting on the memories tied to her former home.

Manhattan was where Kotb brought both of her daughters home after adopting them, and it held countless precious moments, from first steps to bedtime routines. “It’s like you want to hold onto things, and you want to let go,” she said with emotion.

While saying goodbye to her beloved apartment was bittersweet, Kotb knew it was the right move for her family’s future. She wanted to give her daughters more space to play, grow, and feel at home.

What’s Next for Hoda Kotb? A Focus on Family and Fulfillment

As Kotb embarks on this new chapter, her focus is entirely on her family. Stepping away from “Today” and settling into suburban life has brought her closer to the life she envisions for herself and her girls.

Her new home is more than just a house — it’s a place where Haley and Hope can thrive, a space that feels warm, safe, and filled with love. Kotb’s daughters are thrilled with their new surroundings, each enjoying their own personal spaces and the freedom of having a backyard to explore.

Although leaving Manhattan and the “Today” show was a significant shift, Kotb is embracing the change with optimism and gratitude. This fresh start marks the beginning of something truly special for her and her family — a chance to slow down, savor life’s moments, and focus on what matters most.

As she put it best, “It’s time for us to grow in a new way — together.”
