The surprise from Travis Kelce came after Dave Grohl seemingly criticized Taylor Swift for not performing live. Swift and Kelce took the stage together for the first time during her Sunday night Eras Tour show in London.
Since the release of “The Tortured Poets Department,” Swift has introduced a new segment to her set. After finishing “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” she performs a silent pantomime sketch with her dancers to transition into “I Can Do It with a Broken Heart.”
In this sketch, Swift is carried to a couch, where she reluctantly changes costumes with help from her dancers, who also encourage her to perform before she begins the song.
On Sunday, much to the fans’ delight, Kelce joined in, carrying Swift to the couch and participating in the sketch with the dancers as she changed outfits, urging her to perform.
The Chiefs tight end donned a full tuxedo, top hat, and tails to match the other male dancers on stage.
Kelce had been present for the past two nights in London, singing and dancing along in the VIP area with other celebrities, including Tom Cruise, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, and Hugh Grant. New famous faces in the VIP section included Sir Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, and “Fleabag” stars Andrew Scott and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
On Saturday, Swift acknowledged Kelce in the crowd, once again altering the lyrics to her song “Karma” to sing, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me.” She had previously done the same during a stop in Argentina when Kelce was in attendance.
The excitement over Kelce’s appearance comes shortly after Swift faced apparent criticism from Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl. At London Stadium on Saturday night, Grohl mentioned the nearby Eras Tour at Wembley Stadium, saying, “I tell you, man, you don’t want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift.”
He added, “We like to call our tour the ‘Errors Tour.’ We’ve had more than a few eras, and more than a few f–king errors as well. Just a couple.”
Fans have occasionally dubbed Swift’s tour the “Errors Tour” due to onstage mishaps like wardrobe malfunctions and a “haunted piano.”
A clip shared online Sunday showed Swift thanking her crew and band, saying they would “be playing live for you for three and a half hours tonight.”
Swift’s next tour stop is in Dublin at Aviva Stadium on June 28.
