Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, recently shared an emotional moment she experienced with her daughter, Princess Lilibet, during a meaningful visit to Nigeria.
This trip marked the Sussexes’ first international journey since stepping back from royal duties, spanning three days of heartfelt engagements.
While visiting Lightway Academy on May 10, Meghan offered a touching insight into her life as a mother. Speaking with kindergarten students, she recounted a sweet conversation with her two-year-old daughter.
“Our daughter, Lili, is much smaller than you all,” Meghan began, mentioning that Lilibet would soon celebrate her third birthday.

She then revealed a profound moment: “A few weeks ago, she looked at me and said, ‘Mama, I see myself in you.’”
The comment resonated deeply with Meghan, 42, who reflected on its significance. “She was being so literal, but I felt something deeper,” Meghan explained. “I thought, ‘Yes, I see myself in you, and you see yourself in me.’”
Meghan also expressed a sense of connection with the children at the academy. “When I look at all of you, I see myself in you too,” she said warmly.

Both Meghan and Prince Harry joined the children in singing, dancing, and playing games—activities Meghan noted as Lilibet’s favorites. “Maybe it’s all the hopping around,” she joked, eliciting laughter.
Despite their commitment to maintaining privacy, the Sussexes occasionally share glimpses of their family life. In February, Prince Harry appeared on Good Morning America, describing the joy their children bring. “They make us laugh and keep us grounded every day,” he said. “I’m so grateful to be a dad.”
Meghan’s anecdote about Lilibet highlights the close-knit bond within their family.
While balancing public engagements with a desire for privacy, moments like these offer a rare look into their personal world.
The couple’s recent visit to Nigeria also underscores their dedication to connecting with others and fostering meaningful relationships.
