Everyone knows that when honey is exposed to heat it loses its healthy ingredients. But do you know the healthiest way to prepare mushrooms and how you should prepare your chicken steak without “killing” everything healthy in it? Are you making these culinary mistakes?
Probably each of us knows that the diet should be rich in fruits and vegetables to be healthy and many are guided by the rule that during every meal there should be at least 4 colors on the table.
But did you know that there are mistakes that we all make in food preparation, which contribute to the destruction of the nutritious and healthy ingredients of the products?
What are the most common mistakes we make, and we are not aware that we are ruining food with them?
We cut the fruit for a long time before consuming it?
Fruits usually contain large amounts of vitamin C and B, but few people know that these vitamins are destroyed if the fruit has been exposed to heat and light for a long time.
Therefore, if you cut the fruit and leave it on the table or in the refrigerator for a long time, you will destroy its healthy ingredients.
We marinate and fry the mushrooms
Mushrooms have a large amount of dietary fiber, protein, amino acids and vitamins. But by marinating and frying, much of these healthy ingredients are destroyed.
It is considered that the healthiest way to prepare mushrooms is to grill them, because that way the amount of healthy ingredients is not reduced.
We always peel the vegetables
The largest number of healthy ingredients in fruits and vegetables are in the peel. For example, potatoes are rich in potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, vitamins C and B, but when you peel them, the amount of these healthy ingredients decreases significantly.
Therefore, it is good to occasionally wash the potatoes well and bake them in their skins. The same applies to carrots, apples and some other products.
When you pick up the fruit or vegetable and if the skin looks good (not too thick or dry), it means it’s okay not to peel it.
We make tomato sauce
Tomatoes are a rich source of folic acid, vitamin C, potassium, as well as natural fructose and salts.
But in the tomato sauce, the concentration of these ingredients becomes too high, so it can cause oversaturation in the person who consumes it, which can result in inflammation and allergies.
Also, many practice adding sugar to tomato sauce, which further destroys the potential of the tomatoes.
Exposing the honey to high temperatures
Honey is considered one of the healthiest substitutes for sugar and everyone knows about its beneficial effect on human health.
But if you expose it to too high temperatures, there is a danger of destroying much of its healthy ingredients.
Hence, honey must be kept in a cool place and not boiled, but can be added to a cup of hot tea.
We buy marinated steaks
Chicken steak is considered to be an ideal choice of meat, but we don’t always want to eat it plain and without additives.
But you should know that many of the commercial marinades contain large amounts of sugar and salt, which means extra (empty) calories.
Therefore, it is best to marinate the steak yourself, with your own spices and sauces.
We use unrefined olive oil for frying
When talking about oils, it is often mentioned about their “burning point” – which means the temperature of the oil at which oxidation, i.e. combustion, occurs.
Therefore, it should be known that refined oils have a higher burning point, while unrefined oils burn much faster, which can ruin the taste of the meal and negatively affect your health.
Therefore, it is best to use unrefined olive oil only for salads.
We make freshly squeezed orange juice
When you only juice oranges, you discard the other healthy components of the orange, such as fiber, which is supposed to fill you up and slow down digestion.
Even if you do not add sugar to the juice, freshly squeezed orange juice consists only of sugars that affect health.
Orange juice causes blood sugar levels to rise, which contributes to weight gain and decreases the body’s sensitivity to insulin.
We add fruit to the yogurt
Although many emphasize it as a healthy option for breakfast, the combination of fruit and yogurt is not healthy at all.
You should know that fruit acids, when combined with proteins, slow down the metabolism.
The same applies to the combination of milk or eggs and orange juice.
We boil the vegetables
Vitamins C, B and folic acid dissolve in water, so this means that during digestion they “escape” from vegetables and water.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t boil them, but it’s good to do so just to soften them, making the vitamins more readily available.
The most important thing is not to boil the greens in less water and not to overcook them, that is, to allow them to remain a little crunchy.
Stay Healthy!
