Celine Dion surprised Grammy attendees when she appeared on stage to present the final award.
This was the first major celebration for the 55-year-old music star after being diagnosed with the rare Stiff Person Syndrome, which turns people into living statues.
Celine first publicly shared her diagnosis in December 2022, after which she canceled all concerts on her tour. Since then, she has been withdrawn from all public events.

Stiff person syndrome is an incurable neurological disease that attacks the muscles with features of an autoimmune disease.
Symptoms include muscle spasms, inability to bend over, pain and chronic anxiety. Muscle spasms can be so severe that they dislocate joints and even break bones. Patients may end up in a wheelchair or immobile, often unable to work or take care of themselves.
Dr. Tara Zier, the founder of the Stiff Person Syndrome Research Foundation and a patient, explained that the spasms can reach such intensity that they lead to bone fractures, joint dislocations, and pose life-threatening challenges to breathing.
There is no cure for this syndrome, but there are treatments that help relieve symptoms.
“When I say I’m happy to be here, I really mean it from the heart,” said Dion, who looked stunning in Valentino creations.

Dion was welcomed into the hall with thunderous applause, accompanied on stage by her son René-Charles.

“Those blessed enough to be here at the Grammy Awards should never take for granted the love and joy that music brings to our lives and the lives of people around the world,” Celine said in her speech.

She presented the award for the best album, which this year also went to Taylor Swift.

In November 2023, Celine Dion made a public appearance at Katy Perry’s Las Vegas residency held at the Resorts World Theatre. Although initially slated to perform at the same venue, Celine had to cancel her scheduled appearances due to unforeseen circumstances.
During that period, she was also captured in photographs attending an NHL hockey game featuring the Montreal Canadiens and the Las Vegas Golden Knights at the T-Mobile Arena in the city.
